Using Artificial Intelligence in the classroom.

Have you ever wondered what kind of videogames an artificial intelligence (AI) would create? Well, wonder no more, because we have asked advanced AI systems to come up with ideas for different aspects of these videogames and the results were...interesting, to say the least.

One of the AI systems we used was GPT-3, a powerful language model that can generate coherent texts on almost any topic. We asked the AI to give us ideas with topics we like, for example: "a plot for a platform game in which you play as a cat" or "the plot for a football game in which you are on a bike". Here are some of the ideas it came up with:

- A platformer game where you play as a cat who can transform into different animals. You have to use your animal abilities to solve puzzles and escape from a mad scientist who wants to experiment on you.

- A football game in which you are on a bike. In the game you have to play football in a bicycle doing freestyle, when you win a match you get experience with which you can get new characters, accessories and stadiums

Another AI system we used was DALL-E, a neural network that can generate images from text descriptions. We gave it some of the game ideas from GPT-3 and asked it to draw what they would look like. Here are some of the images it produced:

As you can see, the AI systems have a lot of creativity and imagination, but also some limitations and quirks. Some of the game ideas are original and intriguing, while others are bizarre and nonsensical. Some of the images are realistic and detailed, while others are abstract and distorted. It seems that AI still has a lot to learn from human game designers, but also has a lot to offer them.

Connecting Worlds

In a world that often feels massive and disconnected, bridging the gaps between nations and fostering global understanding becomes an extraordinary feat. It is within this context that we must recognize the exceptional contributions of Mrs. Ghiorzi, a special individual who made this opportunity possible for us.

She once taught English at our school in Pehuajó before moving to North Carolina, USA, where she began teaching Spanish to young students. Despite the distance, she kept in touch with her former colleagues, and together, they had a brilliant idea to connect our schools through letters. And so, the first letters arrived, opening doors to a journey of cultural exchange, friendship, and learning for all involved.

The letters served a special purpose: to know about the students and their culture, lifestyle and traditions. We learned a lot of things about them and their school, and were able to communicate with the native speakers and understand them. This was also an opportunity to practice our language skills as we talked with the students and even made friends with them. It was a great experience and really fun. We were curious about their culture and they were open to share everything they could with us.

Beyond cultural exchange, the letters shed light on the contrasting educational systems between our schools. We found that their school is massive and filled with facilities. For instance, as classes usually extend to the afternoon, students go into the canteen for lunch. In addition, there is a gym, a big campus and they even have got a wall where they put trophies and paintings. Furthermore, they have mandatory clubs, like theater, music, Spanish and a sports club, while ours are optional, we can choose if we want to join a club, like TED or the school Magazine.

Among all the information we shared, one story caught our attention and made us smile with its innocence. In one of the letters, a girl mentioned the food we should try if we ever visited their country —pizza, salad, and hamburgers— as if that food were exclusive to their region. It highlighted the differences in culinary experiences and the unique perspectives we gained through this intercultural exchange.

In conclusion, we realized how little they know about Argentina, and how much we know about the USA. Nonetheless, we learned so much and would love to continue doing it. However, their school year has finished, and we have to wait until they start going to school again in September.
